What happens when I run out of credits?

Updated this week

If your connected AI or translation provider (ChatGPT / OpenAI or DeepL) runs out of credits during a job, Elovate will not be able to process the affected items. Instead, those items will return with an error status.

1. What you’ll see in Elovate

  • In the job overview, you’ll notice that the progress bar stalls and some items remain in Processing or Error.

  • In the status column, affected items will display an error icon or message.

  • If you open the item view, you may see provider-specific errors such as:

    • token limit reached (ChatGPT)

    • insufficient characters (DeepL)

2. Where to confirm the issue

  • Check your provider account:

    • OpenAIUsage page will show your total tokens used and whether you’ve hit your quota.

    • DeepLUsage statistics will show your monthly character limit and remaining characters.

3. How to fix it

  1. Purchase additional credits or upgrade your plan with the provider.

  2. Return to Elovate and locate the affected job.

  3. Filter for Error status items.

  4. Retry (Regenerate) the failed translations or AI generations — either in bulk or one-by-one.

4. Tips to avoid this problem

  • Monitor your provider usage regularly, especially before running large or continuous jobs.

  • Break very large jobs into smaller batches to reduce the risk of exhausting credits mid-run.

  • For continuous jobs, keep extra credit buffer in your provider account to handle new incoming items.
