Step 7: Add image types

Configure your store’s custom Magento image types in Elovate to ensure accurate mapping for translations, exports, and multilingual SEO

Updated over a week ago

Image types in Elovate tell the system which product images from your Magento 2 store to use for enrichment, translations, and exports.

Because Magento allows an unlimited number of image types — and stores can create their own unique attribute codes — Elovate cannot ship with a universal, preloaded set (e.g., “hover swatch,” “zoom,” “gallery view,” etc.).

This means you’ll need to manually add any image types your store uses.

1) Where to find image type settings

  1. In Elovate, go to Settings → Image types.

  2. You’ll see a list of any image types already configured.

2) Add a new image type

  1. Click Add image type.

  2. Fill in:

    • Name — a descriptive label (e.g., Base Image, Thumbnail, Hover Swatch).

    • Magento Image Role — match it to the Magento role or attribute code your store uses.

  3. Click Save.

3) Why adding your own image types matters

  • Every Magento store’s image setup can differ.

  • Prevents missing or incorrect images in translations and exports.

  • Ensures correct mapping for multilingual SEO optimization (alt text, titles, captions).
