How to configure multi-select delimiter, thousand separator, and decimal separator

Configure multi-select, separators, and SKU prefixes in Elovate for clean Magento imports

Updated this week

Preparing your import job in Elovate

When preparing your import jobs in Elovate, you can configure how certain values are handled to ensure smooth compatibility with Magento.

These settings are found in the setup phase of an import job and apply to data formatting and SKU management.

Multi-select separator

Magento uses a specific separator for multi-select attributes (e.g., “Color” with multiple values).

By default, Elovate will import these values separated by a comma (;).

If your supplier file uses a different character (e.g., | or ;), you can set that here.

This ensures values are stored correctly in Magento without errors or mismatches.

Thousand separator

Some supplier files format numbers with a thousand separator (e.g., 1,000 or 1.000).

Magento expects clean numeric values without incorrect separators.

Set the correct separator in Elovate so it can properly interpret the number format during import.

Decimal separator

Decimal separators differ between countries (e.g., 1.99 vs 1,99).

By setting this correctly in Elovate, you ensure prices, weights, and measurements are imported without errors.

Prepend SKU

This feature allows you to add a fixed prefix to every SKU during import.

Useful if:

  • You want to group imported products with a clear SKU identifier

  • You are importing from multiple suppliers and want to avoid SKU conflicts

Example: If SKUs in your file are 12345, setting a prefix SUP- will make them SUP-12345.

Notes

  • These settings can be changed per import job depending on your file’s format

  • Always verify these before importing to avoid incorrect attribute values or SKU mismatches
